Question 1

What is today's Daf Yomi?

Accepted Answer

Today's daf is shown at the top of the Daf Chazarah homepage and on the Daf Yomi Calendar page (/daf-yomi-calendar), updated automatically every day at chatzos. You can also open any past or upcoming date on the calendar to see the daf for that day, and download the full PDF summary for any daf we've already covered.

Question 2

What is Daf Yomi?

Accepted Answer

Daf Yomi (literally 'daily page') is a worldwide programme of learning one folio (two sides) of the Talmud Bavli every day. Started in 1923 by Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin, it takes about 7.5 years to complete all 2,711 dafim of Shas. Hundreds of thousands of Jews around the world learn the same daf on the same day — Daf Chazarah is a free tool to help you review (chazer) each day's daf in minutes.

Question 3

How long is a Daf Yomi cycle and when does the next one start?

Accepted Answer

Each Daf Yomi cycle is approximately 7 years and 5 months (2,711 dafim, one per day). The current 14th cycle began on 1 January 2020 (5 Teves 5780) and is scheduled to finish on 7 June 2027 (3 Sivan 5787). The next cycle will start the following day with Berachos Daf 2.

Question 4

Who started Daf Yomi?

Accepted Answer

Daf Yomi was founded by Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin, who proposed it at the First World Congress of Agudath Israel in Vienna on 16 August 1923. The first cycle began on Rosh Hashanah 5684 (11 September 1923) with Maseches Berachos.

Question 5

How does Daf Yomi work in practice?

Accepted Answer

You learn one daf (two sides of a Gemara page) per day, following a fixed worldwide schedule. Most learners attend or listen to a daily shiur (about 45–60 minutes) and then review (chazer) the daf to retain it. Daf Chazarah gives you a concise written summary of each day's daf — perfect for reviewing on your phone, before bed, or before the next day's shiur.

Question 6

What is chazarah and why does it matter?

Accepted Answer

Chazarah means review. Without it, most of what you hear in a daily shiur fades within days. A short, structured chazarah after each daf is what makes Daf Yomi stick — so by the end of the cycle you've actually learned Shas, not just heard it. Daf Chazarah is built specifically for fast, daily review.

Question 7

Is Daf Chazarah free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The website, all daf summaries, PDFs, search, calendar and translations are 100% free with no signup. Daf Chazarah is also free on Google Play and the web. The Apple App Store and Amazon Appstore charge a small one-off download fee set by those stores, but all content inside the app remains free with no subscriptions or in-app purchases.

Question 8

Do I need to follow Reb Eli Stefansky's shiur to use Daf Chazarah?

Accepted Answer

No — Daf Chazarah is useful for any Daf Yomi learner, regardless of which shiur, chabura or sefer you use. The summaries are written from the daily MDY shiur but cover the same daf that every Daf Yomi learner is on that day, so they work as chazarah for OU Daf Yomi, All Daf, Hadran, Daf HaChaim, Sefaria, or any other shiur or learning programme.

Question 9

Is Daf Chazarah affiliated with MDY (Mercaz Daf Yomi)?

Accepted Answer

No. Daf Chazarah is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to Mercaz Daf Yomi (MDY). Our chazarah summaries are based on the publicly available daily shiur of Reb Eli Stefansky, which we listen to and distill into concise review notes.

Question 10

What languages are available?

Accepted Answer

Daf summaries are available in English and can be translated on-demand into Hebrew (Ivrit), Yiddish, Spanish and French, so learners around the world can chazer in the language they're most comfortable with.

Question 11

Which masechtos are currently covered?

Accepted Answer

Daf Chazarah currently covers Seder Kodashim and Niddah: Zevachim, Menachos, Chullin, Bechoros, Arachin, Temurah, Kerisos, Meilah, Tamid and Niddah. New dafim are added daily following the Daf Yomi cycle, and earlier masechtos will be added over time.

Question 12

Can I use Daf Chazarah offline?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Any PDF you download stays accessible offline, so you can chazer on a flight, on the train or anywhere without internet.

Question 13

How do I sponsor a day of Daf Yomi learning?

Accepted Answer
