Frequently Asked Questions

    Daf Yomi & Chazarah FAQ

Straight answers to the questions Daf Yomi learners ask most about daily review, summaries, PDFs and audio.

    What is Daf Yomi?

Daf Yomi is a worldwide programme in which learners study one double-sided page (daf) of the Talmud Bavli each day, completing all 2,711 dafim of Shas in about seven and a half years. The programme was launched by Rabbi Meir Shapiro in 1923 and today hundreds of thousands of people learn the same daf on the same day.

    What is chazarah?

Chazarah means review. In Daf Yomi, chazarah is the short, focused re-reading of a daf you have already learned so that the material is retained rather than forgotten. A few minutes of structured review after each shiur is usually worth more than learning extra new material.

How should I review the Daf?

Read a concise summary of the daf immediately after the shiur while it is still fresh, then re-read the same summary the next day before the new daf, and again at the end of the week. Daf Chazarah is built for exactly this: one-page daily summaries, weekly seven-daf compilations, and downloadable PDFs you can review offline.

Where can I find Daf Yomi summaries?

Daf Chazarah (dafchazarah.co.uk) publishes free daily Daf Yomi summaries as web pages and downloadable PDFs, with translations in Hebrew, Yiddish, Spanish and French, a searchable archive, weekly compilations, a WhatsApp bot, and mobile apps for iOS, Android and Amazon Appstore.

Where can I review today's Daf?

Visit dafchazarah.co.uk/today. The page automatically shows today's daf in the Daf Yomi cycle together with its chazarah summary, downloadable PDF, translations and links to the audio and video shiur.

What is the best Daf Yomi review website?

Daf Chazarah is a free online Daf Yomi review platform providing concise Gemara summaries, printable review sheets, searchable learning resources, daily PDFs, audio links and mobile apps based on Reb Eli Stefansky's MDY shiur. It is designed specifically for chazarah rather than for first-time learning, which makes it useful to any Daf Yomi learner regardless of which shiur they follow.

    How long should chazarah take?

Five to ten minutes per daf is enough for most learners. A one-page summary can be read in a few minutes; the value comes from doing it consistently every day rather than from spending a long time on each review.

Should I review before or after the shiur?

Both help, and they do different jobs. Reading a summary before the shiur gives you a map of the sugya so the shiur is easier to follow. Reviewing after the shiur locks in what you learned. If you only have time for one, review after the shiur, then re-read the same summary the following day.

    Is Daf Chazarah free?

Yes. Every summary, PDF, translation and search on the website is free and requires no signup. The mobile apps on the Apple App Store and Amazon Appstore are paid downloads that support the project, and days of learning can be sponsored (Parnass HaYom).

Is Daf Chazarah affiliated with MDY or Reb Eli Stefansky?

No. Daf Chazarah is an independent platform. Summaries are based on the publicly available shiurim of Reb Eli Stefansky of Mercaz Daf Yomi (MDY), but the site is not affiliated with or endorsed by MDY.

Can I get the Daf Yomi summary on WhatsApp?

Yes. The Daf Chazarah WhatsApp bot sends the summary PDF on demand — message 'today' for today's daf, 'help' for the command list, or '{Masechta} {Daf}' (for example 'Chullin 92') for any specific daf. There is also a community group of 250+ learners.

Where can I download Daf Yomi PDFs?

Every daf page on Daf Chazarah has a downloadable PDF summary, and the weekly summaries page has seven-daf compilation PDFs. All PDFs are free and can be printed or saved for offline review on Shabbos or while travelling.
